Roding Electrics is a registered NICEIC Domestic Installer and member of the Trustmark scheme.

Benefits of using an NICEIC-registered Contractor

The NICEIC has been assessing the technical competence of contractors for over 50 years.

Their aim is to protect everyone who uses electricity from unsafe electrical installations in their homes, places of work and leisure.

To achieve this, they maintain a register of electrical contractors that are assessed as complying with the various standards, codes of practice and Scheme rules.

Contractor assessment covers a representative sample of the contractors work, their premises, documentation, equipment, and the competence of their key supervisory staff.

Once contractors become registered with NICEIC, they are re-assessed on a regular basis to ensure continued compliance.

Enrolment with NICEIC is voluntary, but electrical contractors that are competent and conscientious about the service they offer customers would consider it a priority to enrol.

It is believed that approximately 90% of Local Authorities in the UK restrict work to NICEIC Approved Contractors on safety grounds and householders can be assured that all work undertaken by an NICEIC-registered contractor will be safe.

The main benefits of using a contractor registered by NICEIC include:

Safety and competence Contractors registered by NICEIC are assessed on a regular basis to ensure that they are competent and capable of meeting the relevant technical and safety standards, codes of practice and rules of the Schemes they are registered to.

Each Scheme has a defined set of competence criteria that contractors must meet to achieve and maintain registration.

Compliance with building regulations Contractors registered to NICEIC Building Regulations Schemes are authorised to self-certify their work without hindrance from Local Authority Building Control.

This saves you both time and money when undertaking work that requires notification under the Building Regulations.

Insurance Backed Warranty

The NICEIC Insurance Backed Warranty covers work undertaken by contractors registered to the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme that is notifiable to Building Control.

The purpose of the Warranty is to protect consumers should any work be found not to comply with the Building Regulations under circumstances where the contractor is no longer in business to undertake the necessary remedial work.

The financial limit placed on the remedial work is 25,000 in respect of any one installation per period of insurance and the warranty is valid for a period of six years from the date of completion of the original work.

TrustMark is the government scheme to assist consumers to find a reputable contractor.

NICEIC is one of a limited number of scheme providers authorised to award

TrustMark to electrical contractors.

TrustMark is a Scheme supported by the Government, the building industry and consumer groups to help consumers and specifiers find reliable and trustworthy tradespeople to make improvements and repairs to domestic properties.

If a firm displays the TrustMark logo you can be assured that it has been checked against a set of standards set by the Government by a TrustMark approved body.

The TrustMark Scheme recognises the difficulty consumers face in selecting reputable construction industry companies to undertake work in their homes.

The concept is to promote an identification mark which will become widely recognised by consumers as a mark of integrity, and allows them to avoid rogue traders and have confidence in the standard of work undertaken.

Introducing the Buy With Confidence Scheme

What is it?

The Buy With Confidence and CustomerFirst schemes were initiated by Hampshire County Council and Devon County Council respectively to help businesses comply with the law while improving consumer protection through a partnership approach. Both schemes have now spread to a number of Local Authorities across the South and continue to grow.
It has been agreed that the two schemes will merge under the name and logo of Buy With Confidence.
Businesses signing up to their responsibilities set down in the rules the Scheme will become 'Approved Members'. The scheme also includes a clear statement of the service that the scheme operators will provide member businesses.

What's it all about?

The aim of the Buy with Confidence scheme is to help consumers to avoid rip-offs and cowboys by providing a list of reputable local businesses, in a wide range of different trades. Member companies have been independently checked by staff from the local authority Trading Standards Service against the Scheme rules.

Who is running the scheme?

The scheme is run by Trading Standards departments in a number of County and Local Authorities. Please see the Buy With Confidence website www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk for a full list of member Authorities and relevant contact details.

How can I be sure that the businesses on the scheme are reliable?

All members are subjected to stringent checks by Trading Standards staff to ensure their trustworthiness and compliance with the law. Levels of consumer complaints against members are also monitored on a regular basis.

Does this mean that I will never have a problem with a business who is a member of the scheme?

No, it is not possible to ensure that nothing will ever go wrong. However, if you have a problem with a member of the scheme they are required to deal with any complaints in a fair and equitable manner. If the complaint cannot be resolved, the Trading Standards Service will attempt to assist in reaching a solution.

Does the scheme guarantee that members will offer the lowest price?

No. Members are not required to offer the lowest price, but they are expected to offer value for money and make all charges clear at the start of a contract and remember, the cheapest quote will not necessarily be the best one.

Does the scheme guarantee the quality of goods or workmanship?

Members of the scheme are committed to providing a quality service to their customers and complying with both the letter and the spirit of the law. We cannot, however, guarantee the quality of their work but would not permit membership to businesses that give rise to regular complaint.

How much does it cost to use the list of members?

There is no charge to consumers for using the scheme.
